A Year 3 Lab Note: Measuring Z→ℓ⁺ℓ⁻ with ATLAS Open Data and a Toy FSR Recovery

Physics Jul 10, 2026

This is a note on my Year 3 lab experiment analysing Z-boson dilepton production with ATLAS Open Data, written here in case I forget the details a few years from now.

I carried out this computational analysis with Hansheng Ye. The main work measured $Z\to e^+e^-$ and $Z\to\mu^+\mu^-$ production using 13 TeV ATLAS Open Data. My extension work started with an awkward dependence on the muon isolation cuts and ended with a deliberately simplified but practical FSR-inspired mass recovery.

Notes Jan 20, 2026

This is a small marker for the point when I rebuilt the site as a proper Hexo project instead of keeping only the generated HTML.

I plan to use it for three kinds of notes:

  • physics, papers, and things I had to work through slowly;
  • AI models and tools that are genuinely useful in practice;
  • programming notes, including mistakes worth not repeating.

Nothing ambitious yet. I mainly want a place where technical work can keep some of its context after the project itself is over.
